Bivvy is a dog and cat (and other pets) insurance provider prioritizing simple, low-cost coverage. The Madison, Wisconsin-based business has offered CUMIS Insurance Society, Inc.-underwritten pet insurance plans since 2019. Despite its youth, Bivvy offers features that might entice first-time and seasoned pet owners. The Guides Home Team analyzed Bivvy's plans, coverage, pricing, and customer reviews to the industry standard to determine which pet insurance company is best.
Read our review below to determine whether Bivvy insurance is the right choice for your pet.
Bivvy also provides wellness plans and accident and sickness policies.
Bivvy offers a single plan that covers accidents, diseases, and previously undiscovered problems for cats and dogs, unlike other pet insurance firms that provide different plans. No matter your pet's age, size, sex, or breed, the monthly plan fee is $15. A yearly maximum of $5,000 and an accident maximum of $1,000 are the limits of the regular plan, respectively.
There is a $250 deductible, and Bivvy will pay half of the claim cost and repay you the other half. If your yearly deductible is $250 and your vet bill is $1,000 after that, you'll have to pay $500 out of pocket before Bivvy pays the rest.
Bivvy's basic package includes:
Except for orthopedic problems, which need a 180-day waiting period, Bivvy pet insurance has a 14-day waiting time for other accidents and illnesses. Before submitting a claim, you must wait until the end of the waiting period, which begins on the policy purchase date.
Your pet will not be eligible for coverage in the event of an accident or unexpected sickness that occurs less than two weeks after the commencement of your plan. Similarly, Bivvy insurance will not pay for an orthopedic problem in your dog or cat if identified less than 180 days after purchasing the plan. Wait times may vary from company to company, but it's important to remember that many of them, including Figo and Embrace, have wait times of little more than three days.
Optional preventative and regular care plans are available via Wellness Care Bivvy. No matter the size, age, sex, or breed of your pet, the company's wellness add-on will cost an extra $9 each month.
Here are the items that the wellness plan covers:
Like most pet insurance companies, Bivvy insurance does not pay for problems that have already been identified, such as genetic or congenital disorders, or any problems that occur during the first 14 or 180 days of coverage.
Additionally, the regular plan from Bivvy pet insurance will not pay for any preventative treatment, including immunizations, spaying or neutering, flea and heartworm medicine, or grooming expenses. If you seek insurance for a young puppy or kitten, you may want to explore elsewhere due to that exclusion.
Bivvy provides a wellness plan for pets under two years old, such as dogs and cats, including all the necessary veterinary care, such as examinations, immunizations, and blood testing.
The following also do not include:
No matter the age or breed of your dog or cat, the Bivvy premium remains $15. Since Bivvy plans are not adaptable, the $15/month cost is predicated on a maximum coverage of $5,000, a $250 deductible, and an 80% reimbursement rate.
Do you need separate plans for your pet's medical care?
It is not recommended, and in many cases not permitted, to have several plans with various firms for the same pet. Many companies often deny claims for pets insured with several providers. Terminating your current pet insurance policy before enrolling in a new one is recommended if you are dissatisfied with the service or want more coverage.
When is the first Bivvy premium due?
Upon enrolling, you will be required to pay the first monthly payment. Payments are then payable monthly, beginning thirty days following the enrollment date. You may set up automatic payments via Bivvy's customer portal.
Does Bivvy's Wellness Care affect my deductible, yearly limit, and co-insurance?
Your monthly premium will increase by $9 to $24 if you enroll in the optional Wellness Care plan. On the other hand, your deductible and yearly coverage limit will be the same. Furthermore, for all authorized treatments, examinations, and veterinary services, Bivvy charges a co-insurance of 50%.
